The Yacht Club Capri is preparing to launch its new racing calendar, a calendar teeming with increasingly interesting events. As of 2008 the Rolex Capri Sailing Week has been organized by the Yacht Club Capri in close and direct cooperation with Rolex. The goal of the Club is to build close working relationships with other top sailing clubs, to carry out important sporting events while managing existing competitions in the best way possible. The Yacht Club Capri has become a full titled member of the “Comitato Vele di Levante” , consortium composed by ten sailing clubs that operate on the Bay of Naples between Torre del Greco and Sorrento.
The Rolex Capri Sailing Week, the world renown international regatta taking place from the 20th to the 24th of May, is without a doubt one of 2008’s most prestigious appointments .
The Rolex Capri Sailing Week celebrates its 4th Edition this year. 56 boats had already entered the race in February proving that interest was already running high and the fleet formed by Farr40s, Swan 45s, Swan 42s, Maxis, Maxi Swans Comet 41s, 45s and 51s have made this a record entry edition. Well known owners and sailors will be meeting up on the docksides and preparing to battle it out on the water. The Regatta has been organized by the Yacht Club Capri in cooperation with Rolex, Federazione Italiana Vela and Unione Vela Altura Italiana.
This year Rolex Capri Sailing Week also comprises an Italian Championship that will be held within the series. In fact given the high number of Swan 45s participating, 18 in all, the Class has requested that the races be recognized as the national championship.
Races for the entire fleet will be held on windward-leeward courses and offshore races, depending of course on the weather conditions.
In view of the high number of participants, starts will be by groups, ensuring a spectacular show for all those who want to follow racing from the sidelines.
Fashionable rendezvous and social events are scheduled for each day of racing as is the traditional Rolex evening for all race participants.
